When designing with PosterMyWall, you can mask photos with text and shape silhouettes as well as freehand. Start by opening the My Stuff page.
Mask
You can mask images with freehand, shapes and text.
Mask with text
- Select your photo for masking.
- Click ‘Mask’ in the right contextual menu (its the goggles icon).
- Click ‘Text’ in the lower left corner of the pop-up menu.
- Add your text, select the font style, size, style, alignment, line height and letter spacing via the text editing options.
- Click and drag the text box to move it around.
- Use the corner bazels to change the mask size.
- Click 'Mask' to confirm your selection. Otherwise, you can use the red 'Remove Mask' button to remove the mask.
Mask with shapes
- Select your photo for masking.
- Click ‘Mask’ in the right contextual menu.
- Click ‘Shape’ in the lower left corner of the pop-up menu.
- Select a shape to use for masking. Select from a wide range of shapes and clipart, including circle, oval, rectangles, arrows, speech bubbles and more.
- Place the shape on the photo and resize it by adjusting the shape’s dimensions as per need.
- Invert masking using the ‘Invert’ option. This will mask the shape out of the image.
- Use the ‘Color pop’ option and make the color of the image within the selected shape to pop out, leaving the remaining image with a cool, black, and white effect. You can combine this with 'Invert' to reverse the color pop effect.
- Click 'Mask' to confirm your selection. Otherwise, you can use the red 'Remove Mask' button to remove the mask.
Mask using freehand
- Select your photo for masking.
- Click 'Mask' in the right contextual menu.
- Click 'Freehand' in the lower left corner of the pop-up menu.
- Remove backgrounds using the ‘Remove Background” option.
- Use the ‘Color pop’ option and make the color of the image pop out.
- Select the “Joints - Curves” option for masking people, animals, and other animate objects i.e. objects with curves.
- Click the blue 'Mask' button to confirm your selection. Otherwise, you can use the red 'Remove Mask' button to remove the mask.
Using masking with mobile
To mask photos with text and shape silhouettes via your mobile phone, follow these steps:
- On the editor page, choose a photo to add to your design.
- In the right contextual bar that appears for the photo, choose the “Mask” option.
- You can mask your image with both shape and text, or using freehand.
Mask with shape
- Once you’ve clicked on 'Mask', a new 'Mask Image' page will appear.
- On the bottom left of the page is a pop-up menu. Open the menu and tap on the 'Shape' option.
- Select a shape to use for masking.
- Place the shape on the photo and resize it by adjusting dimensions
- Use the 'Invert' option to invert the masking. This will mask the shape out of the image, leaving a cut out like shape.
- Use the 'Color Pop' option to add the color of the image within the shape. The rest of the image will be left with a black and white effect to bring focus to the shape.
- Tap on the blue button with the tick mark on the bottom right to mask your image with shape.
Mask with text
- On the 'Mask Image' page, open the pop-up menu on the bottom left and tap on the 'Text' option.
- A text box will appear on your image. Add your text, and adjust the font and dimensions with the text editing options that will appear below the image.
- Tap on and drag the text box to move it around.
- Tap on the blue button with the tick mark on the bottom right to mask your image with text.
Mask with freehand
- On the 'Mask Image' page, open the pop-up menu on the bottom left and tap on the ‘freehand’ option.
- You can then easily separate specific areas of an image from the rest, allowing for more precise editing.
- Tap on and drag the line to move it around.
- Tap on the blue button with the tick mark on the bottom right to mask your image freehand.
